Windward Exhibition

Curated by Jordan Kendall Parks, based in Portland Harbor, Maine, August 2021. My piece "Summertide" is inspired by my collective experiences of summer on the water. Growing up on Casco Bay holds a special place in my heart and my continued experience of life on the coast of Maine. Summers on the ocean are a rush of stunning sunrises, fog banks, and unpredictable storms that roll in with hues of lavender and slate. I utilized my memories to compose color relationships that are based on specific weather patterns myself and many other locals have witnessed. The line work over the abstract pools of pigment both mimic patterns left on calm water after a wave breaks and the contour lines on nautical charts. The work communicates an emotional bond that islanders and coastal Mainers share through experiences of the environment we are exposed to and hold fondly.
